Google has taken over the Yahoo search results, thus giving Google a large portion of the Japanese search results.  Romaji seldom used on Japanese web pages and returns poor search results. Non-Japanese operating systems fetch better results by using JWP to write out request and pasting it into the search box using New-JIS encoding.

Google is the #1 most popular search engine in Japan with a 76.14% market share. Yahoo! Japan is the #2 most popular search engine in Japan with a 16.64% market share. Although Yahoo! Japan shares the same algorithm technology as Google, critical SERP features—like sitelinks —indicate that Google provides more informative, in-depth results.
